Cut list for large pieces?

Is there a way to have the program automatically set the sizes of ply/lumber if it's over the normal size?  Say I have a crate that's 170" x 35" x 53". Well ply sheets only come in 96" so is there a way for the program to auto cut it so the assemblers know what to cut it at?

In Crate Pro 6 the ply splices are calculated for you based on your material size and your settings in Preferences. Please look at these settings and adjust based on your company policy.

  • In Inventory you're able to enter the size of they ply that you purchase.
  • In Preferences>>Settings: Review the value in 'Minimum Dimension of Any Panelboard Piece".  The value here will tell Crate Pro 6 that based on your crate dimensions, no piece can be smaller than this value. An example would be a crate with a 52" OD you'll see one piece cut at 16" and the 2nd piece at 32"
  • In the example shown you might decide that by rotating the panelboard it will reduce the number of cuts and is a better solution. The second setting you want to set in Preferences>>Setting: "OK to Rotate Panelboard". This will tell Crate Pro that its OK to rotate the ply if it can see by the dimension that there will be less cuts.

This is not Yield Management. There are many additional factors that would have to be considered for yield management. Some of the main ones would be the model of saw used and how it cuts. What is your policy on how cuts are done? What sizes of pre-cut ply do you use? In the design go to Details>>Pieces and select the arrow on that screen. This will allow you to export a flat file that can then be imported into any yield management software that you have that fits your company policies.
