My log ins are not working and my designs dissappeared.

I;m trying to log in today and my log-in and password are not being accepted.  I wa able to use the default log-in and password since I didn't remove them and I checked the User module, all my users are gone and the work I did yesterday isn't in there.

The first thing to check is that you're opening your main Company-Named-File and not a backup or copy.

Most often when this occurs, when the user opens FileMaker Pro they select their file from the FileMaker 'Quick Start ' screen. Under the 'Recent Files' option it can show not only your real file but your backups and copies of the same name.

It's not unusual that if you're a new customer that you create your Company-Named-File in the folder that you extracted it to and then make a copy of the file to move it the location you intend to run Crate Pro from without going back and deleting the first file. Now you have multiple copies of the same file name.

There are two ways to avoid this:

  • Instead of using the Quick Start screen, use the FileMaker menu,  File>Open (on the host) or the File>Open Remote (on the clients) to browse to the correct folder
  • On the Quick Start screen select Browse at the bottom of the screen // browse to the correct folder that has your Crate Pro Company-Named-File and select it. This will add it to the "Favorites" in the Quick Start Window. You should always ensure that staff selects the file in the Favorite Files and not in the Recent Files
Remember that while you do not want to have multiple copies if the same file name on the same computer, you should keep a copy of the Crate Pro zip file in a safe place in case you need to install on a new client or host at a future date. Backup copies should be saved on a removable drive or in a network location and have the addition of "copy" or the date of the copy so that you're not creating multiple files of the same name.
