Crate Pro 6 is installed on your own hardware or may be installed on hosting services such as AWS EC2 or a service that support FileMaker Server. Considerations are that some services require the most current version of FileMaker Server to be maintained, and some services do not allow you to manage or modify your own files on the server.

FileMaker Pro client software is installed on the individual client computers, or on the virtual server with FileMaker Pro software for the clients to connect through the virtual server. FileMaker Server software and the Crate Pro 6 files are installed on the online file server. Your file server can not have both FileMaker Server and FileMaker Pro software installed as it will degrade the performance of all software as many of the same resources are required by both.

As of FileMaker Server 19 - Windows O/S requires server operating systems, where as FileMaker Pro client software requires user operating systems. Be sure to check your technical requirements for the current release you're installing and note where we may be upgrading versions.
The client license purchase is two parts: the client software (CAL) for every end-user computer whether it directly connects to the server or connects through a virtual server. A concurrent connection license (DAL) is not installed, but will integrate into the Crate Pro 6 main database file via the provided Activation text file, to manage the number of CAL that connect concurrently.
The number of CAL (computer licenses) required is based on the number of specific end user computers that will connect to Crate Pro 6. So if employee John, wants to login to Crate Pro 6 from his laptop at home and his desktop at the main office through the virtual server, two CAL are required. One for each computer. If John goes to another location and logs in from a 3rd computer, a CAL is needed for that computer. The required amount for CAL is based on the number of unique end-user computers and not the people or Users.
FileMaker Pro is installed on the virtual server, where as the Crate Pro 6 database files are installed on a file server, or hosted server with FileMaker Server software. Ensure when your virtual environment includes multiple virtual servers, the number of CAL purchased is equal to or greater than the number of virtual servers supporting access to Crate Pro 6.
Depending on your security setting, Crate Pro 6 will capture the end-user computer ID and not that of the virtual server. In environments with larger number of virtual servers than a desired CAL purchase, its common to set application specific permissions on specific virtual servers.
File Server Requirements: Your Crate Pro 6 database files will be installed on your file server with FileMaker Server software.
RDS or Citrix Server requirements. Using this link, scroll down the page to the RDS and Citrix server requirements. FileMaker Pro software will be installed on the virtual server. FileMaker Pro software is not installed on the end-user computers. The license is applied to the specific end-user computer and not the virtual server.
An end-user computer that will connect directly to Crate Pro 6 on the file server, requires a FileMaker Pro installation and a CAL. Review the FileMaker Pro system requirements for the client in this instance also shown on this page.
