I've manually entered customers into the Project customer field which are not available in the Design module when I create a design and want that customer to be entered. Why are they missing?

New customers should always be entered through the CUSTOMER module and not by manually typing in a customer name in the Project. By doing so their information and any special instructions or pricing will be available to designs in the DESIGN module and to projects in the PROJECT module. Reports will be searchable by the Customer.
Data is be shared between several of the modules except for the PROJECTS module. Data is one way into the PROJECTS module. The purpose for this is to protect your reports and audit data.
If you manually enter a new customer in a project, that customer will not be copied into the CUSTOMER module, it will not be available in the DESIGN drop-down, and you wont' find the customer in any of the REPORTS. However, if you do a search in the PROJECTS module you will see the customer because that's the only place the customer information exists.
<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
How to fix it if you've been manually adding customers into the project.
Create the customer in the CUSTOMER module (see TIP)
For each project with the manually entered name, unlock the project and select the customer name that will now appear in the list
TIP:
If you manually entered customer names in a lot of projects, you may want to create a new customer in the CUSTOMER module with a slight variation. Otherwise it can get confusing to know which projects have been applied to the customer in the CUSTOMER module. Test this by going to the customer in the CUSTOMER module and clicking on the Projects tab. You should now see the projects that are applied to that customer.
If the status of the project is in Production or further you will have to change it back to Working, change the customer, then reset to the correct status.
